Left untended after the Afghan Civil War and the 1842 earthquake, restoration of the garden began a few years back.

Nauruz is the Afghan New Year.

Helmand River, which means, “dammed or having a dam” is the longest river in Afghanistan with a length of 1,150 kilometers or 710 miles. It is mainly used to irrigate the crops of Afghan farmers. Though it has a mineral build-up that lessens the advantage in watering crops, it is salt-free.
