Tips for Buying Your First Yacht

Owning a yacht is a symbol of ultimate success. You have entered into incredible success and now you are above 99% of other people around the world once you have purchased your yacht. It is a multi-million dollar investment and of course, has various consequences. Some are fun and some are not. Whatever it is, what is certain is that maintaining your yacht is an important matter that you must think about and manage. However, planning before buying is what determines whether your expensive investment will be worth it in the end. This article discusses how you should think about several things before actually buying.

Buying your first yacht or replacing the one you have is an important decision. We know that more than a simple vehicle for relaxation or fun on the high seas, it is a true investment. For this reason, and to guide you during the process, we leave you seven tips that you should take into account when doing it and maintaining it – the costs are higher than the initial expense.

1. Your first yacht should not be a megayacht.

If you are purchasing one for the first time, it is recommended that you do not choose a size larger than 25 feet in length. Later, if you plan to upgrade and buy a great yacht for sale, choose a 34-foot boat. Visit different retailers and shipyards that can guide you to buy the one that suits your tastes, but, above all, your needs. The first mistake that prospective yacht buyers often make is buying more than they need.

2. Take your budget into account.

The most significant cost comes after the purchase. Think about which marina you will keep it in, mooring fees, and insurance. In the first step, we recommend you choose these sizes, because the larger the size, the greater the constant investment.

3. Consider the technical aspects.

It is important that you pay special attention to the hull of the boat, which must be perfectly balanced in its weight to integrate the generators and motors – they must be from recognized brands and have an extended warranty that provides services and facilities to obtain parts in case if necessary -, it is also essential that it be very hydrodynamic for effective navigation. Maintain a close relationship with the shipyard and, especially, with the person who was in charge of helping you with the procedures. They will be able to take care of your needs no matter where you navigate.

4. Engine or mixed?

Be clear about your reasons for buying it: fishing, sports, relaxation, sailing, or any other. If your goal is to sail, we recommend that you choose a mixed one that allows you to do so during the right conditions. If what you are looking for is to be able to navigate different countries or continents, while you relax, you should undoubtedly choose one with a motor. Gather as much information as possible and listen to different opinions from experts before making a decision.

5. You must maintain it daily.

You should hire someone to perform general daily maintenance on the aesthetics – wood, gel coat, fiber, hull cleaning, etc. -, systems, engines, interiors, and generators of your boat. It is essential that the corresponding services are provided as soon as you need them, and it is also necessary that it be a priority for you to receive updates on them.

Fact: Generators, stabilizers, and motors must be impeccable. Change the zinc to prevent corrosion caused by water from harming it. Have a specialized nautical mechanic.
